What’s it like to work at HomeLink Healthcare? 

Fabulous. It’s the best place I’ve ever worked. You’re treated like a human being, you’re treated with respect. You feel like your own boss. And they listen to you; they’re willing to listen to any ideas you might have. It’s like another world.

What elements make HomeLink a good place to work? 

For me, it’s the technology. They give us the technology to be able to do our jobs easier. As I’m out in the community in Norfolk, there are places that are in the middle of nowhere, and the fact that next to the patients’ address is a little map I can press and it’s a SAT NAV that takes me where I need to go makes my life so much easier. And because we type our notes up on an iPad, you can actually read them – for other companies I’ve worked for where notes have been hand-written, often you couldn’t read them because of someone’s spelling or handwriting! If you need to swap a shift, you can just contact one of the other girl’s through the app. It’s all really easy.

What has it been like working for HomeLink during Covid-19? 

They’ve been absolutely great. I started four days before lockdown, so I had to do my training online. They posted out all the PPE I needed and I was never short of it. They gave us guidelines of what we should be doing and how we should protect ourselves, and they sent us lateral flow tests. I know other healthcare workers have struggled to get PPE but we haven’t.

What would you say to someone considering joining? 

Don’t hesitate. 

I’d like to add something else, too. Just before I started at HomeLink, my husband was diagnosed with lung cancer. I kept it a secret because I didn’t want them to think I’d just started and was going to be a pain in the arse. But one of the girls found out, and they’ve been so brilliant. I lost him last year. I’d only been with them 10 months and I had 10 weeks off with full pay. They made a hard situation that much easier for me. I didn’t have to worry about money, was told if I ever felt bad I could take the day off, they sent me a massive bunch of flowers. They’ve just been brilliant. I would never have got this in my old job.
